Texas Longhorns offensive coordinator Kyle Flood has offered fans an encouraging update on Arch Manning ahead of the College Football Playoff.
The Longhorns are set to play Washington in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day and, while Manning won’t be starting, he’s going to be ready to go should he be needed in the case of an injury to starter Quinn Ewers.
Flood is very happy with the progression he’s seen from Manning in his freshman year, expressing confidence in the quarterback while praising the work he’s done in 2023.
“We’ve got a ton of confidence in Arch. His progression throughout the year has been excellent,” he was quoted as saying by 247Sports reporter Brandon Marcello.
With Maalik Murphy having entered the transfer portal, Manning is the next man up. It appears Ewers will be sticking around for another season, so Texas could get to groom him for another year unless the former sustains an injury.
The younger QB made his debut for the program on November 30 in a matchup against Texas Tech. He completed two of his five passing attempts for 30 yards while rushing for seven yards on three carries.
