Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers went into detail about the decision to drastically shake up his physical appearance in the midst of his college career.
Quinn Ewers is entering his third season with the Longhorns’ football program, having arrived in 2022 via the transfer portal following a one-year stint with the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ewers is widely expected to be a top-10 quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft.
You may recall that Ewers donned a slick mullet and beard at the beginning of his NCAA career. But last year, he decided to drastically alter his look by shaving his head and trimming down his beard:
During an appearance on Robert Griffin III’s “RG3 and The Ones” podcast, Quinn Ewers explained that he decided to ditch the “Joe Dirt” look as part of a mental reset. He lost weight and got into better football shape, and the rest is history:
“I knew something had to change. I brought that mentality of being in high school and being able to go out there and do whatever….but it’s a total different game. It took me a little too long to realize that, but I learned quick…took it in stride…I started with the hair and decided to chop it off…drop weight…so I could take hits better and what not.”
When Griffin asked Ewers about bringing back the mullet, the Longhorns said it was unlikely as it takes half an hour daily to clean and wash it.
