Texas Longhorns football head coach Steve Sarkisian addressed the relationship between his two big-named quarterbacks, Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning.
In June 22, Arch Manning announced that he was committing to the University of Texas after meeting with other major programs like Alabama, LSU and Georgia. Arch’s father, Cooper Manning, is the older brother of NFL legends and former quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Eli Manning.
Arch’s grandfather, Archie Manning, was also a star quarterback long before his sons emerged as NFL stars and two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks.
Fans have anxiously awaited Arch’s chance to shine for the Longhorns, but they’ll have to wait another year with Ewers coming back for one more college season.
Though there will naturally be some competition and the drive to outdo the other between Manning and Ewers, Sarkisian told SiriusXM College Sports Radio that his two quarterbacks have a “healthy” relationship.
“We’re fortunate, I don’t take that for granted. There’s a lot of other schools out there with one guy, and what happens if something happens to him. Again, we’re in a good spot…I think their rapport together, the way they work together and push each other and make each other better, the relationship they have has been very healthy as well.”

Ewers was widely projected to be a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, but he ultimately decided to return for another year of college ball. So as long as he retains his superstar-like form, Arch won’t take on the starting reins until 2025.
Arch Manning’s Time Will Come
The hype around Arch dates back to when he was in high school, so it’s easy to understand why fans are getting antsy to see him in a starting role.
But Sarkisian is one of the best coaches in the country, and one simply has to trust the process with him and Manning. Ewers is one of the top QBs in the nation, and the Longhorns have no reason to turn away from him as long as he continues to perform at an elite level.
Once Ewers declares for the NFL Draft, Arch Manning will have first dibs on the Longhorns’ quarterback job. Learning behind Ewers for one more year, with his family offering a helping hand, isn’t a bad thing by any means.
