A young ice hockey star suffered a gruesome injury by an opponent’s skate – just weeks after Adam Johnson’s tragic death.
19-year-old Jonas Nyhus Myhre was rushed to hospital after a skate cut through Myhre’s jersey during a game between Lörenskog and Storhamar. The cut was so bad that it sliced open his chest, skin, and muscle.
The Norwegian hockey player continued to skate immediately after but had to stop when he realized he couldn’t use his pectoral muscles.
Myhre explained he had so much adrenaline that he didn’t feel it within the first few minutes, but then the pain set in.
The young star said: “I had so much adrenaline that I didn’t feel it for the first few minutes. But after about five minutes it started hurting like hell and I couldn’t use the pectoral muscle.
“I never saw the wound myself so I pulled up my jersey and asked some teammates if it was bleeding. They had a shock reaction and immediately called for a doctor.”
“The chest muscle was split in half.”

Doctors worked to sew his muscle and skin back together and, once he had taken stock of his injuries, Myhre admitted: “I was very lucky.”
He has been told to rest to help his injury heal and has been ruled out of playing ice hockey well into the New Year.
He is obviously disappointed to be missing the World Juniors, which will take place in Sweden on Boxing Day and run until January 5.
His terrible injury comes not long after the death of Adam Johnson, who died after his neck was cut by the skate of an opponent back in October. He was playing for Nottingham Panthers against Sheffield Steelers.
