Sad news to report from the world of college football as Liberty University announced Sunday that football player Tajh Boyd has died. The offensive lineman was 19.
Boyd was only 19 and had joined the Flames in January, but his “impact on the program will be felt for years to come,” Liberty AD Ian McCaw said in a statement.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the loss of one of our student-athletes, Tajh Boyd. Tajh joined our Liberty Football family as recently as January and his impact on the program will be felt for years to come,” the letter reads.
“When you come to the Mountain, you immediately become a part of the Liberty University family and something truly special. We thank God for bringing Tajh into our Liberty Athletics community and we will always remember him as a Flame. Tajh will be missed dearly.”
A cause of death was not revealed.
Boyd, a freshman, played high school football at Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, Virginia. He was a three-star-rated prospect who committed to Liberty over Maryland and Pittsburgh. During his time, he helped his school win two state championships during his sophomore and junior seasons.

Rivals rated Boyd as the state’s 28th-ranked player in his recruiting class.
Per his Liberty bio, Boyd intended to major in interdisciplinary studies with the goal of becoming a computer science engineer.
We would like to send out condolences to the family of Tajh Boyd over this tragic event that will no doubt affect them for years to come. No parents should have to bury their child, especially at such a young age.
