Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian isn’t going to let there become a quarterback controversy between Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning just as there was all last year.
The Longhorns coach made it clear who his team’s starter is.
After leading Texas to a Big 12 title and an appearance in the College Football Playoff during the 2023 season, Quinn Ewers is going into 2024 as the starting quarterback.
Steve Sarkisian praised Arch Manning as someone who has “an extremely bright future,” but declared Ewers will be the No. 1 signal-caller on the depth chart.
“Quinn’s our starter,” Sarkisian said.
“I don’t think that Quinn was a finished product yet. And I think there’s there’s plenty of room for growth and improvement in development in his game, going into year three,” the coach said. “I do think his experience, his maturity are all going to be things he can benefit from.”

Manning was the No. 1 recruit in the 2023 class out of Isidore Newman in New Orleans but played behind Ewers and Maalik Murphy as a true freshman, throwing a total of five passes in two games.
Fans may be disappointed in this news, but they need to have patience.
Ewers has proven to be one of the best quarterbacks in the country. He completed 69% of his passes in 2023 for 3,479 yards and 22 touchdowns to six interceptions while leading the team to a 12–2 record.
With another year at the helm, Ewers will look to lead Texas to its first national championship since the 2005 season.
