In an epic Red River Showdown that will go down in Cotton Bowl history, No. 6 Oklahoma came back down multiple scores multiple times against Texas to complete the biggest comeback win in the rivalry’s storied history.
Spencer Rattler began the 2021 college football season as a Heisman Trophy candidate who signed multiple deals in the wake of college players being able to make money.
So far, Rattler has been booed by his own fan base as they called for his backup to take his spot. This week, he got benched and never got his job back as Caleb Williams went 16-of-25 passing for 212 yards and two touchdowns in the 55-48 comeback win. He also finished with 88 yards on the ground.
Facing a 4th-and-1 to begin the second quarter, head coach Lincoln Riley brought in the backup to shake things up, and instead of getting the 1-yard they needed, the 6-foot-1 quarterback from Washington D.C. took off for a 66-yard rushing touchdown, bringing Oklahoma within 14 points of Texas.
The camera panned over to Rattler, who did not have the best reaction:
