Any team can fall victim to a blowout, it’s a part of the sport, but what the 20th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners did to the Arkansas State Red Wolves was borderline criminal.
The Sooners blew out the Red Wolves 73-0 this Saturday, marking one of the worst losses in NCAA history. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel threw for over 300 yards on 19/22 attempts and 2 touchdowns in the first half alone.
The team had a total of nine offensive touchdowns, six of which were rushing, and the lone defensive touchdown came from a fumble recovery. Oklahoma, one of the top teams in the NCAA, made quick work of the Red Wolves, holding the team to 160 passing yards and 48 rushing yards.
The Red Wolves will look to shake this loss off but were completely outmatched by the larger program. They will face the Memphis Tigers on September 9.
The Sooners will take this blowout win into next week’s matchup against the SMU Mustangs. If Oklahoma keeps racking up victories like this, expect them to climb up the rankings a lot faster than expected.
