Football fans are furious after Colorado Buffaloes two-way star Travis Hunter was named the winner of the Fred Biletnikoff Award on Thursday night.
Travis Hunter won the award that is handed annually to the most outstanding college wide receiver. He was also the winner of the Walter Camp Award, which is voted on annually by FBS coaches and sports information directors.
Though Hunter is almost a lock to be named the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner, the decision to name him the Fred Biletnikoff Award winner was controversial, as Nick Nash of San Jose State won the receiving triple crown.
Nash led the country in receptions (104), receiving yards (1,382) and receiving touchdowns (16). So as you can guess, social media had a lot to say about Hunter winning the honors over Nash.
‘He wasn’t on tv. That’s why,” quipped a fan.
“Absolutely diabolical by whoever is voting in these awards. Travis isn’t the best of any position,” wrote another.
“Yeah most of Hunters TDs were padded stats (see Oklahoma State game),” another fan objected.

“That award means nothing after this. What a joke,” claimed another.

“Nick Nash got robbed of the Biletnikoff award. Travis Hunter is a dawg but Nash has the triple crown only 3 other people have ever done that and I think he dis that having missed a game,” one fan wrote.
“There is actually no way Travis Hunter is a better WR than Nick Nash. I HATE national award voters with a passion,” wrote another.
“You can lead the nation in catches, yards, and TDs, and still not be the best now apparently. Unreal. Nick Nash was 100% robbed,” a fan wrote.
“I CAN NOT BELIEVE THEY ROBBED NICK NASH BRO WHAT AM I WATCHING. They gotta be loading up Travis hunters trophy count to either push him into heisman or make him feel him for not getting it. Either way robbery of the receiver triple crown king,” said a fan.

As for Hunter, he caught 92 passes for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns as a wideout. The two-way phenom was also a force on defense, racking up 11 pass breakups and four interceptions.
The other four nominees for the 2024 Heisman are Miami quarterback Cam Ward, Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty and Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel.
Colorado finished the regular season with a 9-3 record, a significant improvement from the 2023 group that finished 4-8 following a 3-0 start. They wrap up the 2024 campaign against BYU in the Valero Alamo Bowl.
Travis Hunter Could Go First Overall In 2025 NFL Draft
There’s a strong likelihood that Hunter will be taken first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. The class is considered weak for quarterbacks, though Hunter’s teammate Shedeur Sanders also has a good chance of going first overall.
Hunter has maintained his desire to play both wide receiver and cornerback in the NFL. His coaches will have a say, but it’s hard to envision him playing solely cornerback given the value of game-changing wideouts in today’s pass-happy NFL.
