Alabama Crimson Tide five-star quarterback recruit Keelon Russell needs to be more cautious about what he shares on social media. And more importantly, extra safe on the road.
The 17-year-old Keelon Russell previously committed to the SMU Mustangs before announcing that he was instead flipping to Alabama. The 2024 Gatorade Football Player of the Year plays is a student at Duncanville High School in Duncanville, Texas.
On his Instagram story, Russell shared a photo of himself driving en route to Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Not only did Russell basically reveal that he was committing distracted driving, but you can see that he was going well over the speed limit at 89 miles per hour:

“Keelon, this is NOT Athens, GA!,” joked a fan.

In recent years, there has been an alarming amount of college football players involved in traffic-related accidents or driving infractions. So here’s hoping that someone speaks to Keelon Russell about the importance of driving safely and not acting like he’s invincible simply because he’s a young man with his full life ahead of him.
The 2024 season was a roller-coaster for the Crimson Tide under first-year head coach Kalen DeBoer. Alabama finished 9-4 and failed to qualify for the 12-team College Football Playoff, with an ugly 24-3 loss to Oklahoma on Nov. 23 essentially sealing their fate.
Keelon Russell Joins Busy Alabama QB Room
Jalen Milroe, the starting quarterback for Alabama, has already declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. Presumably, Alabama’s quarterback competition will feature Russell, Austin Mack and Ty Simpson.
In his final season of college football, Milroe completed 64.3 percent of pass attempts for 2,744 yards, 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions to go along with 726 rushing yards and 20 rushing scores.
