Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines are having themselves some fun this season.
After beating Colorado State and Hawaii by scores of 51-7 and 56-10, respectively, they put up another fifty-burger against UConn this afternoon, blowing them out, 59-0. Perhaps getting bored of beating teams by 40-plus, Harbaugh decided to make things interesting by having seven different quarterbacks throw passes for his offense today.
J.J. McCarthy got most of the work after starter Cade McNamara left the game with an injury. McCarthy completed 15 of 18 attempts for 214 yards.
And behind him in terms of completions was McNamara Alan Bowman, Brandon Mann, Alex Orji, Davis Warren and Andy Maddox completing a single pass each. Warren was the only one to get two pass attempts, while the other five went a perfect 1-for-1.
Also of note is the fact that all seven QBs combined for just one touchdown pass (by Bowman) and one rushing touchdown (by Orji). Most of the Wolverines scoring came from running back Blake Corum, who found the end zone five times on just 12 carries.
It’s also interesting to note that Michigan had more quarterbacks complete a pass (seven) than UConn had total pass completions (five).
The win moved Michigan to 3-0 on the season. They’ll get their first test of the season next week when they host Maryland for their Big Ten opener. They’ll be playing that game without McNamara, who is expected to miss a few weeks. It’s no wonder Harbaugh wanted to look at so many other quarterbacks on his roster.
