If the Heisman trophy were given to any position other than quarterback, the common thought would be that two-way star Travis Hunter would be the clear favorite. However, Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty is giving him a run for his money.
Boise State pummeled the Washington Cougars on Saturday night, handing them their first loss of the season, and are now 3-1. That win would not have been possible without Jeanty putting the team on his back.
Jeanty finished the game with 259 rushing yards, four touchdowns, and averaged 10 yards a rush. One of his most impressive runs of the day was a 59-yard touchdown that likely should have been stopped at the line of scrimmage.
The game put everyone on notice, with many now convinced Jeanty should be a Heisman favorite.
“Ashton Jeanty is the best running back in the country, and it’s not close. He’s firmly in the Heisman conversation,” said one comment.

“he is unstoppable. if he doesnt win the heisman is rigged. he shows up and shows out .leaves everything on the field,” said another.
“Jeanty then Hunter. Hunter has to rely on others more for him to make his plays than Jeanty needs to. Jeanty has great O-line and can create his own plays,” continued a third.
Of course, there are still a lot of games left, and things can still change.
Ashton Jeanty Is Having A Historic Season
This wasn’t the first great game from Jeanty, and it’s not even his best this season.
That came in Week 1 against Georgia Southern when he gained 267 yards and six rushing touchdowns. Now, after playing just four games, he has 845 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns.
This could be the start of a potentially record-breaking season.
