Social media was fooled by a viral (but fake) aerial view of the 2023 Rose Bowl contest between the Michigan Wolverines and Alabama Crimson Tide on Monday.
The viral image was AI-generated, but it certainly looked realistic. Here is a picture of the (fake) image that, if were real, would be a contender for the top sports photo of 2023 (maybe even the entire decade):
For reference, here is the actual aerial shot that was taken above the 2018 Rose Bowl between Oklahoma and Georgia. As X/Twitter noted in the first image, the colors and team logos were altered to those of Alabama and Michigan:

The Wolverines managed to outlast the Crimson Tide 27-20 in overtime to punch their ticket to the national championship game. Roman Wilson’s four-yard touchdown reception with 1:34 remaining helped force overtime.
Blake Corum scored a 17-yard rushing touchdown on Michigan’s opening drive in overtime to put the Wolverines ahead. Jalen Milroe was stopped on a quarterback draw on 4th-and-goal on the ensuing possession to seal the game for Michigan.
The No. 1 ranked Wolverines will meet the Washington Huskies in the national championship game next Monday. The No. 2 ranked Huskies outlasted the Texas Longhorns 37-31 in the Sugar Bowl
