The No. 1 Michigan Wolverines defeated the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide 27-20 in overtime in the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Rose Bowl.
No. 4 Crimson Tide’s College Football Playoff semifinal and season came down to one overtime play in Pasadena.
The Crimson Tide wasn’t perfect. It simply made too many mistakes and a final one on their last play doomed them.
It got as close as fourth down at the 3. A low snap ha Milroe stopped at the 2 for maybe the most agonizing finish for the team. Slow motion replay shows just how doomed the play was due to that bad snap.
“Bad snap on the final play doomed the timing of the run,” Schwartz explained. “It was there if Milroe had a good snap and could hit the run where it was intended. Would have been tough but there’s a path with the widest guy going so far upfield.”
Michigan clinched a berth in the College Football Playoff national championship game for the first time in program history when the defense stopped Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe on fourth-and-goal from the three-yard line in overtime.
