WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes has revealed having reached out to Iowa Hawkeyes star Caitlyn Clarke amid their supposed beef.
Swoopes prompted some backlash after claiming that neither Clark nor Angel Reese would have an immediate impact in the pros, adding that the former being on track to break Kelsey Plum’s NCAA scoring record was not impressive.
Speaking to former NBA star Gilbert Arenas on the ‘Gil’s Arena’ podcast, Swoopes inaccurately claimed that Clark had used up a COVID-19 year of eligibility, implying she was getting extra games to catch the record.
She also suggested that the college state was 25 years old and competing against other players who were around 20 while hoisting up 40 shots a game.
Well, the two might be in a better place now as Swoopes has disclosed having apologized to Clark for the comments she made about the possibility of breaking said record, which she has since done.
The Athletic’s Chantel Jennings has reported that Swoopes reached out to Clark over the phone.
“I won’t share what she said, I’ll leave that to her if she wants to share,” the four-time WNBA champion and three-time MVP was quoted as saying.

“But I will say, what I said to her was, ‘I made a mistake in saying it was your fifth year when it is your fourth.’ I have nothing but respect for what she has done for the game. If she wants to share what her response was and how that conversation went, I’ll leave that to her. But it was a really good conversation.”
Said comments got fans heated online, with Iowa’s social media account even getting in on it while various outlets slammed the former WNBA star. Soon enough, “Don’t Be a Sheryl” and “Be a Sheryl” shirts began circulating online.
Hopefully, things calm down now that Swoopes has apologized.
