The College Football Playoff selection committee has quite the task on their hands after a wild championship weekend.
What we do know is that Michigan and Washington will both be guaranteed a spot in the final four after winning the Big Ten and Pac-12 championships, respectively, to complete their undefeated seasons. Florida State also finished with an undefeated record by beating Louisville for the ACC title — despite missing their star quarterback Jordan Travis.
Meanwhile, Alabama threw a giant wrench into the CFP’s plans by beating no. 1 ranked Georgia in the SEC title game. And Texas (who handed Alabama their only loss of the season), had a very convincing win over Oklahoma State in the Big 12 championship game to finish 12-1 and also earn some consideration for one of the final four spots in the College Football Playoff.
Now that the games are all done, it’s time for the committee to fill in the blanks. And, basically, they’ll be required to pick two teams from a list of Alabama, Georgia, Texas and Florida State to join Michigan and Washington.
Georgia and Alabama will obviously tell you that they deserve to be in the College Football Playoff because they play in what many believe to be the best conference in college football. However, many fans seem to think that this year’s final four should be free of SEC representation.

It’ll be interesting to see how it all shapes out, but if the SEC is in fact left out of the College Football Playoff, don’t expect too many tears for Nick Saban and Kirby Smart’s clubs.
