We’re not even one week into the 2023 college football season, so now would be a good time for some overreactions. And we already have our first of the year.
To kick things off this year, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Navy Midshipmen traveled across the Atlantic to battle it out in Ireland… but when it came time to take the field, it didn’t turn out to be much of a battle at all.
The Fighting Irish steamrolled Navy, 42-3, in what turned out to be quite the coming out party for Sam Hartman.
Making his debut for Notre Dame after transferring from Wake Forest, Hartman made quite the impression on his new team. The senior quarterback completed 19 of his 23 pass attempts for 251 yards and four touchdowns.
That performance had college football fans already anointing him the Heisman Trophy winner, despite the fact that pretty much every other school hadn’t even played a game yet.

It’s a perfect start to the season for Notre Dame, who entered the new campaign ranked 13th in the nation. The front portion of their schedule is rather easy with upcoming battles against Tennessee State, North Carolina State and Central Michigan, but then things kick up a notch with battles against powerhouses like Ohio State, Clemson and USC as we get deeper into the season.
If they can come away with wins in those big game, we could see the Fighting Irish and their quarterback taking home some hardware by the end of this year.
