Marshon Lattimore was sentenced to one year of probation last week after a felony gun charge was dismissed and he pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge instead, according to ESPN. In addition to probation, Lattimore has also been ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.
Back in March, the New Orleans Saints cornerback was arrested in Cleveland and was initially charged with a fourth-degree felony for possessing a loaded handgun that was believed to be stolen. Last week, that charge was dismissed as Lattimore’s attorney, Marcus Sidoti, said Lattimore did not know the gun had ever been stolen. Lattimore pled guilty to the misdemeanor charge of failing to promptly inform officers that he was carrying a concealed handgun while being the passenger of a car that had been stopped for multiple traffic violations.
He reportedly had a permit to carry a concealed weapon, but video of the arrest showed he did not immediately inform officers of his gun until they asked.
Had Lattimore been convicted, he would have faced up to 18 months in prison, per TMZ.
An NFL spokesman did not indicate to ESPN whether Lattimore will face league discipline for the incident, saying the matter “remains under review.”
Lattimore is widely considered among the NFL’s top cornerbacks, with 37 tackles, 10 passes defended and an interception in nine games this year.
After the first week of the 2021 season, the Saints signed him to a five-year, $97.6 million contract extension.

The 25-year-old was drafted with the 11th overall pick out of Ohio State.
