Actor John Beasley has sadly passed away.
Beasley, who rose to fame due to his role in the 1993 hit football film, Rudy, is dead at the age of 79.
The actor had appeared on TV shows, as well as another hit movie, The Mighty Ducks, in 1992, before landing the role of Coach Warren in Rudy. His character was an assistant coach at the University of Notre Dame, whose football program the main character (Rudy Ruettiger), played by Sean Astin, walked on for.
“They say you shouldn’t ever meet your heroes because they don’t turn out to be who you thought they were. That is so wrong. My hero was my father. Thank you for everything,” Beasley’s son Mike posted to Facebook.
Beasley worked on the Union Pacific Railroad before becoming an actor in his 40s. Following his success in Rudy, he appeared in other films such as Little Big League, The General’s Daughter, The Sum of all Fears, The Purge: Anarchy, Walking Tall, and I’ll See You in My Dreams.
He would also launch the John Beasley Theater and Workshop in his native Omaha, Nebraska.
