The nation’s eyes will be on Deion Sanders and his Colorado Buffaloes this weekend, with the program set to kick its season off against TCU on Saturday.
The Horned Frogs are coming off a championship game appearance many tip them to make easy work of a Colorado side that won just one game last season. However, Deion’s presence has made the fixture a primetime affair as it’s set to air on FOX at 12 p.m.
According to the NFL Rookie Watch account on X, Travis Hunter is set to star in a dual role for the Buffaloes as he will start both at cornerback and wide receiver vs. the day’s opponents. The report notes that Hunter has a better understanding of the game than some pros and has the potential to be either a team’s CB1 or WR1.
It could be a special season for the 20-year-old, who followed Sanders from Jackson State to Colorado at the end of last year. It appears he’s now looking to emulate his coach and establish himself as a premier two-way player.
While Charles Woodson and Champ Bailey are notable examples where the college game is concerned, Hunter could end up replicating Sanders as a dual threat in the pros.
Coach Prime is undoubtedly the best cornerback to ever play in the NFL but also functioned as a WR2 for the Dallas Cowboys during the season that ended with their last Super Bowl win. Should Hunter excel on both sides of the ball this season, Caleb Williams’s Heisman prospects might not be as safe as many imagine.
