Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh is apparently once receiving plenty of interest from several NFL teams.
On Sunday, Harbaugh’s Wolverines — who won the Big Ten Championship on Saturday — were officially named one of four teams in the College Football Playoff National Championship, along with Georgia, TCU and Ohio State.
According to a report from Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, multiple NFL teams clubs “have been doing background work” on the former San Francisco 49ers head coach. One source even told them that they believe Harbaugh “would consider” coming back to the pros:
“Sources say multiple NFL teams have been doing background work recently on Harbaugh, who led Michigan to the Big Ten championship and locked up a College Football Playoff bid with Saturday’s 43-22 win over Purdue.
One NFL source plugged into the situation said they believe Harbaugh would consider a return to the NFL, and a source with another team that could be running a head-coaching search said they believe Harbaugh would discuss an opening if asked and weigh the right situation.”
The victory over Purdue moved Michigan to a perfect 13-0 on the season. The Wolverines will play TCU in the semifinals on New Year’s Day, aiming to win the school it’s first national championship since 1997.
Harbaugh served as the head coach of Stanford from 2007 to 2010 before taking over as the new head coach of the 49ers in 2011. They reached the NFC Championship Game in each of his first three years there, reaching Super Bowl 47 which culminated in a heartbreaking loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Harbaugh left the 49ers after a disappointing 8-8 2014 season. Though it was announced as a mutual parting of ways, it has been widely reported that Harbaugh was let go after losing a power struggle to then-GM Trent Baalke. The 49ers were one of football’s worst teams in the years following Harbaugh’s departure.
The 58-year-old Harbaugh has a 74-24-0 record as head coach of the Wolverines. In his four years at Stanford, the Cardinal compiled a 29-21 record.
Any team Harbaugh has coached has turned into a winner. If he ultimately decides to leave Michigan for a return to the NFL, there will be no shortage of interested teams. His short but sweet tenure with the 49ers speaks for itself.
