According to reports from WAVE, Ava Jones, who recently announced her commitment to Iowa women’s basketball, has been hospitalized along with three family members following a terrible accident in Louisville.
Jones as well as her parents and brother were standing on a sidewalk when they were hit by a car driven by 33-year-old Michael Hurley.
The two adults remain in critical condition and one teen girl is in serious but stable condition. The young boy was treated for minor injuries.
Hurley, who was taken into custody, told officers at the scene he had taken hydrocodone and was “too tired to make a turn.”
Trey Jones, the father, passed away this Thursday. He was 44 years old.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the Jones family has been charged with four counts of first-degree assault and driving under the influence.
Jones, 1 top-100 recruit, announced her commitment to Iowa only a few days ago.
Jones is set to begin her senior year at Nickerson this fall. She led Nickerson to the Class 3A tournament this spring, averaging better than 20 points per game.
