The Michigan Wolverines enjoyed a stellar 2023 college football season that ended in a national championship win, but it was hardly without controversy as former head coach Jim Harbaugh served two suspensions and the program was implicated in a damning sign-stealing scandal.
There are now fears that they could be stripped of their title, but insider Pete Thamel has sought to allay those with claims that the school is in no danger of losing any hardware.
While Harbaugh is no longer with the program, having opted to return to the NFL, new HC Sherrone Moore is under scrutiny, with ESPN having reported that he sent texts to Connor Stalions, the man at the center of the sign-stealing probe, and could start next season with a suspension.
Moore has been accused of committing a Level 2 violation following the retrieval of a deleted thread containing 52 text messages.
Still, the Wolverines aren’t thought to be under threat of losing their title, with Thamel stating as much on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ this week.

“I’ve talked to people who trade in this NCAA infractions space over the last 24 hours,” he said. “One thing that I’m certain of, Pat, is that any accomplishments that they won will not be taken away.
“Those typically involve players that are not eligible. Obviously, there are no players involved in this.”
Michigan Wolverines Fans Should Be Thrilled With This Bit Of News
It does appear that there is a real possibility of Moore getting suspended, but the title should be safe. Thamel did also point out that the coach will likely not be suspended during the playoffs.
The Michigan Wolverines and their fans shouldn’t mind a suspension plus fines here and there as long as they get to keep their championship. So this will come as welcome news.
