According to recent reports from NBA Insider and analyst for The Athletic, Shams Charania, former Illinois forward Coleman Hawkins’ commitment to playing at Kansas State Wildcats represents the most lucrative NIL deal.
“Illinois transfer Coleman Hawkins – a 6-foot-10 F – has committed to play for Kansas State in what’s believed to be the most lucrative college basketball NIL deal ($2 million) negotiated from a collective by Nate Conley of Court XIV and Aaron Turner of Verus Basketball.” Charania wrote in his recent post on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Hawkins entered the NBA Draft and transfer portal this offseason. However, he posted a video of Jerome Tang dancing on his social media account on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Friday, showing his commitment to Kansas State.
Coleman Hawkins secured a $2 million deal
The Wildcats have added nine players to their roster through the transfer portal, including Hawkins. After helping Illinois reach the Elite Eight, Hawkins initially thought his college basketball career was over. However, after participating in the NBA combine, he changed his mind. Hawkins was able to increase his earning potential by pursuing Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals at the NCAA level. According to an Athletics insider, he has secured a $2 million deal, which is significantly more than what he would have received as an NBA free agent if he hadn’t been selected. He was initially expected to be a late second-round pick.
