Deion Sanders has built a reputation as one of the best recruiters in college football and has brought several players in through the transfer portal since his arrival, having also secured commitments from some of the best high school players in the nation.
Still, his recruitment approach is unique as he has chosen to take an unusual route.
According to USA Today Sports, Coach Prime hasn’t made any contact with players off campus since he was hired by the University of Colorado nearing the end of 2022.
Off-campus visits with prospects are considered a crucial step when it comes to recruiting. Former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh has made 145 visits since December of 2022. Texas HC Steve Sarkisian has made 128 over the same span while UCLA’s Chip Kelly has made 55.
Sanders, however, isn’t moving around much. His health is likely a contributing factor as he has been dealing with blood clots in his leg since he had two toes amputated in 2021 and needs daily massages to keep his circulation going.

While Prime’s deal with Colorado allows him up to $200,000 for private air service every year, he hasn’t made use of it since taking over the Buffaloes.
“The football staff have not used this service for recruiting since Coach Prime started his term as coach,” the university offered in response to a request for records.
While Sanders isn’t stepping out for off-campus meetings with prospects, his assistants are. They are said to have made 90 visits since December 2022.
