Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders says the team is blessed after a star player decided to change positions ahead of the 2024 season.
Head coach Deion Sanders needed an answer about the running back position, and he got it after Isaiah Hardge decided to switch positions.
Hardge played wide receiver before moving to Colorado to play defensive secondary. Sanders claims that he is now endorsing the initiative by participating as a running back as well.
“Isaiah is an athlete,” Deion Sanders said, via On3.com. “This is a kid who came a receiver, flipped over to defensive back because we were desolate at that position. He went back and blessed us and played running back for us and got it done. I mean, he’s an athlete. He’s a ballplayer.”
Hardge showed he was all about the team in high school when he moved over to cornerback sporadically during his senior season at Florida powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas in 2022. The Raiders went 14-0, capping the season off with a 38-21 victory over Homestead in the 3M title game that December.
Last season for the Buffaloes, running back Dylan Edwards led the team with 321 yards rushing on 76 carries, but he only scored one touchdown for Sanders’ squad all year. He has since transferred to Kansas State.

Anthony Hankerson was second with 78 carries for 319 yards with one touchdown. He is now with Oregon State. Last week, running back Sy’veon Wilkerson decided he would leave Deion Sanders’ team as well as he entered his name into the transfer portal, which means the top three running backs on the roster will be gone for 2024.
Deion Sanders Hoping To Rebound In A Huge Way After Dismal 2023 Season
After making news during Deion Sanders’ 4-8 rookie season, Colorado has been one of the busiest programs this offseason.
As he begins his second season at Colorado, Sanders is looking to build on the 3-0 start his team had the previous season before things went south. The Buffs’ lone victory in the Pac-12 came against Arizona State, while they finished 1-8 overall.
The Buffaloes take on FCS heavyweight North Dakota State to start the season. They then travel to Nebraska and Colorado State in preparation for their Big 12 debut.
