Andre Seldon Jr., a cornerback for Utah State, was tragically found deceased Saturday night in the Porcupine Reservoir roughly after he drowned after an apparent cliff-diving accident, the university announced.
He was only 22-years-old.
Interim head coach Nate Dreiling said in the school’s announcement, “Our football program is heartbroken to have to endure the loss of one of our own.”
He also mentioned his time of knowing the young man when he was at New Mexico State, saying, “Having had a previous relationship with Andre during our time together at New Mexico State, I can tell you he was an incredible person and teammate. Our condolences and prayers go out to Andre’s family as we grieve with them over this tremendous loss.”
As for the cliff diving incident, witnesses stated they saw Andre Seldon Jr. diving at a nearby reservoir and alerted authorities when he failed to resurface.
A search started when the Utah Department of Public Safety dive team found his body at 9:05 p.m. MT.
A spokesperson from the Cache County Sheriff’s Office called Seldon’s death a “tragic accident.”

Seldon, a cornerback, was starting his first season at Utah State as a fifth-year senior after previously playing at New Mexico State, where he was a team captain.
Nate Dreiling, who at the time was New Mexico State’s defensive coordinator but is currently Utah State’s interim head coach and defensive coordinator, posted more about Andre Seldon Jr. on Sunday.

Andre Seldon Jr. Put Up Greta Numbers At New Mexico State Prior To Transferring
A four-star prospect out of Belleville High School in Michigan, Andre Seldon Jr. will never realize his dream of possibly getting to the NFL after he tragically passed away during a diving accident.
Seldon began his collegiate career at the University of Michigan, appearing in one game in each of his first two years before transferring to New Mexico State.
The Belleville, Michigan, native found much success there. He had two interceptions, including a pick-six, and 96 total tackles in 28 games, per ESPN.com.
The good times were supposed to continue when Seldon followed Dreiling ahead of the 2024 campaign, but all that is left now is heartbreak.
