Fans are all blaming the same thing for the way Caleb Williams’ final NCAA season has ended.
After getting off to a hot 6-0 start, USC couldn’t have imagined they would struggle to the point where they would lose five out of their last six games. But that’s exactly what happened, and fans think Williams’ appearance in a commercial for Dr. Pepper is the cause.
The Trojans were tipped to win at least 10 games this season – after all, they have the reigning Heisman as their starting quarterback. They got hit with a dose of reality as they lost consecutive games to Notre Dame and Utah in October before a heartwrenching loss to Washington in early November that brought the emotion out of the NFL-bound star.
Williams has likely played his final game for the Trojans, who ended their regular season with a 38-20 defeat to UCLA on Saturday that followed a loss to Oregon. While the program is bowl-eligible, he isn’t expected to risk an injury for a meaningless game.
As mentioned above, the run of subpar performances has been attributed to the “Fansville” ad shown above in which the QB refutes being superstitious as he walks under ladders after pointing out that he wears No. 13 and is on the cover of a video game, then holds a black cat.

The commercial came out around the time USC lost their first game of the season. They’ve gone 1-5 since then, with their only win coming in the form of a marginal victory over California.
So is Dr. Pepper responsible? The optics definitely suggest as much.
