LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers was arrested on Bourbon Street in New Orleans earlier this week. The Tigers’ leading receiver in 2022 was facing a misdemeanor charge of illegal carrying of a weapon, according to police.
Nabers was placed in handcuffs after officers on patrol noticed an “L-shaped object” in his pants pocket, according to NOLA.com. He told police that he did not have a permit for the weapon and was subsequently arrested and brought to the Orleans Parish Justice Center.
He got extremely lucky in the aftermath of that arrest.
The misdemeanor gun charge against him was dropped as prosecutors decided they would not pursue the case on the condition that the weapon, which police seized a day earlier, not be returned to Nabers.
“Based upon the lack of a previous criminal background and the individual currently being enrolled in college, we did not proceed with the misdemeanor gun-carrying charge against him at this time in exchange for his immediate and voluntary forfeiture of the firearm,” the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s office said in a statement.
