A Portland State player had a horrid outing against Oregon as he suffered a concussion and needed to have his ear sewn back on.
The Vikings must have known they had no chance of winning when they agreed to play the Ducks in the first game of the 2023 season and ended up getting blown out with an 81-7 result. But one of their players had way more than his pride hurt as he sustained a grisly ear injury.
Oregon went into the game as 48-point favorites and there was little doubt that they would run through the Big Sky Conference outfit.
As expected, Portland State players were worse for wear by the time the affair was over, though someone losing an ear was nowhere near anyone’s thinking. Still, it’s something the Vikings had to nurse as head coach Bruce Barnum revealed one of his players got the appendage partly torn off, also getting concussed.
“We’re fine. We had one guy get his ear ripped off. They sewed it back on and now they say he has a concussion, so he’s out, but I think he’s fine,” Barnum told John Canzano. “Not the whole ear; a partial ear detachment. I think it was from when he got his helmet knocked off, so I think his ear didn’t come out of his helmet.”
The player remains unknown as Barnum refused to identify him, while there’s no injury report to help in that regard.
