The Colorado Buffaloes have been accused of trying to illegally recruit a player from a Division II school.
CSU Pueblo head coach Philip Vigil posted a screenshot to Twitter/X supposedly showing a conversation between a committed Pueblo player and a member of the Buffs’ staff.
The player apparently received a text message from someone he believes to be Devin Rispress, the CU assistant director of player personnel, asking whether he would like to play for Colorado.
The person claiming to be Rispress asked whether the student-athlete whether he was a full CSU Pueblo commit
“Do you have any Interest in a commitment flip with us,” he inquired after the player said he was.
Vigil didn’t take it well and posted screenshots from the conversation online.
“Hey @NCAA and @Big12Conference, is this considered tampering, or is @Coach2Bless and @CUBuffsFootball able to recruit our current players like this?” he wrote as the caption.

The Colorado Buffaloes Have Responded
It does appear that the player was being pranked as the supposed Rispress says he’s from “Colorado university.”
Rispress has also responded to the post with claims that the person in the text exchange was not him.
“nice try yall been catfished wrong guy brother. You could’ve hit me up before tweeting this and embarrassing your program,” he wrote.
While Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is known to use unconventional recruiting strategies, texting a player who has committed to another school is a big risk.
Of course, the NCAA could easily determine whether the messages came from Rispress. But they probably didn’t, by the looks of things.
