Oklahoma State’s Alan Bowman is your real-life Van Wilder.
The quarterback is 24 years old and, as crazy as it sounds, is entering his seventh college season. He doesn’t see any reason to take it seriously.
Bowman made light of his continued eligibility in a tweet celebrating his “1st day of 19th grade” on Monday, which got a laugh out of fans on social media.

This couldn’t possibly be any stranger, right? Well, actually, it can.
Get this: Bowman was in the same 2018 class as Trevor Lawrence, Joe Milton, and Will Levis. Lawrence was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021, while Levis is heading into year two with the Tennessee Titans, and Milton is trying to hold down a spot as a rookie with the New England Patriots.

Bowman, on the other hand, is set to be a second-year starter for the Cowboys.
“I make jokes, everyone is like, “You were in eighth grade whenever I started my first game. You were in like seventh grade when I did that.” Of course everyone kind of banters with me being old — the old guy, the old head. But it’s OK. That’s what you get for coming back. I expect that,” he said back in April.
“I’m a joking guy. I understand, I feel like, if you’re giving me crap about being in college for seven years. Like, I deserve it, you know what I mean. If we’re all just joking about it I think it’s healthy.”

How Alan Bowman Got To Year Seven
Alan Bowman isn’t your typical college quarterback, that much is clear. But how did he get to year seven?
He used a medical redshirt at Texas Tech in 2019 after joining the program in 2018, becoming a regular redshirt after transferring to Michigan in 2021.
The quarterback got an extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
When added to the regular four, those three extra years of eligibility take him to seven.
Bowman transferred to Oklahoma State in 2022 and threw for 3,460 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions as a starter. He led the program to the Big 12 Championship Game a season ago.
