Last week, Mike Leach got himself into a bunch of trouble by simply sharing an image of a woman knitting a noose. Even though he has apologized, he is till finding it rather hard to find any allies on his side.
ESPN’s top SEC analyst Paul Finebaum thinks Leach was wrong, but is also lucky this happened while everybody is distracted by the coronavirus pandemic. Finebaum suggested that the ongoing crisis is ultimately saving him from further backlash and possibly losing his job at Mississippi State.
“Yeah, I would say that it may end up being a blip,” Finebaum said. “Now, if we weren’t going through what we were currently going through, I think he would be in trouble. Because some of the things that were said about him on national programs Friday were downright scary, but I think the audience for national sports right now is so minimized and marginalized, that I suspect that Leach will survive…”
Mississippi State defensive lineman Fabien Lovett wasn’t thrilled with that tweet, so much so that he announced he was entering the transfer portal mere hours after Leach’s tweet.
