Notre Dame Fighting Irish football fans awkwardly had to change their expletive chant up after being reminded that head coach Marcus Freeman is from Ohio.
The No. 9 ranked Fighting Irish will host the No. 6 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes tomorrow night in one of the most highly-anticipated games of the young 2023 NCAA football season. Both teams carry perfect records heading into Saturday’s tilt (Notre Dame 4-0, Ohio State 3-0).
On Friday, Freeman made an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” to talk about the matchup. In the background, Fighting Irish fans loudly chanted “F**K Ohio”, which prompted ESPN to briefly mute the audio.
Once it was pointed out to the fans that Freeman himself is actually from Ohio, the fans quickly changed their chant to “F**K the Buckeyes!”

After four years at Cincinnati, Freeman made the move to Notre Dame in 2021 to serve as their defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Head coach Brian Kelly left the program to coach the LSU Tigers’ program, and Freeman was promoted to the HC position late in the 2021 season.
