ESPN’s Pat McAfee was feeling both lucky and generous ahead of Duke’s highly-anticipated home contest against Notre Dame.
The former NFL punter brought in Duke freshman Alexander Citardi onto his show to kick a field goal for prize money. Super Bowl 31 MVP Desmond Howard kindly offered Citardi some advice before the first attempt, too.
McAfee told Citardi that if he could boot a 33-yard field goal, he would get $37,500. Citardi, who stated that he never attempted a football kick before, was nowhere close on the first attempt.
A confident McAfee then offered Citardi $1 million (!) on his second attempt. The second one had better distance, but it was way-way left and nowhere close:
Hey, it’s still cool that Citardi got to spend a few moments on national television with one of the world’s most beloved sports analysts. And do keep in mind that a 33-yard field goal is not as easy as the pros make it look on television. There’s a reason those guys are professionals, after all.
Duke and Notre Dame will square off at 7:30 p.m. EST.
