An NCAA tournament popular star from the Indiana State Sycamores is headed off to another program.
Indiana State star Robbie Avila, an NCAA fan favorite, plans to take his talents elsewhere after he decided to enter the transfer portal this week.
Avila spent the last two seasons with the Sycamores and easily became the NCAA Tournament’s darling and national sensation.
“Sports 10 has been informed Robbie Avila isn’t expected to be in the transfer portal today, but coming days,” Semmler tweeted. “Once Sycamore big man enters, that will put starting ISU 5 from this season in transfer portal.”
The best season in Indiana State basketball history since Larry Bird ended when the team lost to Seton Hall at Hinkle Fieldhouse in the NIT championship game. That loss took a visible toll on Robbie Avila, who had become the face of the Sycamores’ resurgence this NCAA season.
Avila, Indiana State’s first-team all-Missouri Valley Conference forward, could be seen with his hands on his knees seconds after what would have been a game-winning 3-pointer bounced off the front rim.
