Ole Miss signee DeeJay Holmes Jr. was arrested Monday after reports stated he fled from police in Palm Beach County.
Holmes was booked on a third-degree felony charge for eluding an officer with active sirens according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report.
According to The Palm Beach Post’s Emilee Smarr, the 18-year-old was released from police custody early Tuesday morning after being held on a $3,000 bond.
The three-star football prospect held more than 20 offers before choosing to take his talents to the Ole Miss Rebels in February over teams like Colorado, Central Florida, South Florida, and Cincinnati.
It was just earlier this month when the Palm Beach County Sports Commission honored Holmes as the Boys High School Athlete of the Year at its 46th annual awards ceremony. He also took home the Player of the Year Award at the Lou Groza Awards last December.

He ended his fourth and final year on his high school football team as No. 2 in the nation in sacks, posting 32.5 on Pahokee’s 9-3 route to Class 1R region finals. He added 117 tackles along the way.
Holmes, the cousin of Anquan Boldin, is a 6-foot-3, 230-pounder who ranks No. 66 among all edge-rushing recruits in the class of 2023, per 247Sports.
Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin has not spoken publicly about this situation as it continues to develop.
