The showdown between Oklahoma State and Texas in Saturday’s Big 12 championship game was already going to be a heated affair, but it took a disturbing turn this week when somebody or some people took things too far.
Police in Stillwater, Oklahoma stated that they found a longhorn steer with its stomach sliced open outside Oklahoma State’s FarmHouse fraternity early the same morning.
“This is a very unusual situation that’s occurred,” Stillwater Police Department spokesperson TJ Low told The Oklahoman. “We’ve never had anything like this within our jurisdiction. It’s a very cruel crime to be committed, especially right before the Big 12 championship. Nothing is worth doing that kind of crap.”
Oklahoma State quickly condemned the act in a statement, writing that the university was “appalled at the disturbing display of animal cruelty that occurred overnight at an off-campus location near a fraternity house.”

Criminal investigators are working on the incident.
The Oklahoma State University chapter of FarmHouse Fraternity also issued a statement. They said fraternity members were “just as sickened and surprised by this incident as our peers on campus.”
“This morning it was discovered that a deceased carcass of a longhorn cow had been discarded in the front yard of our chapter house, branded with a phrase referencing our chapter in an inappropriate manner. We immediately reported the incident to local authorities and are working with them as they continue their investigation.
“As a chapter founded on principles driven by our agricultural roots, we’re just as sickened and surprised by this incident as our peers on campus. It is disheartening to see the disregard for proper animal welfare and treatment displayed by this situation.
“To our knowledge, no FarmHouse member was involved in this incident, and we do not condone cruelty or defacing of livestock in any manner.”
The incident comes a day before the Oklahoma State football team takes on the Texas Longhorns in the Big 12 Championship Game.
The Cowboys, who are 9-3 on the year, will be taking on the Longhorns, who are 11-1, Saturday at noon ET at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
