A member of the Oklahoma Sooners football roster was arrested earlier this month, but the development flew under the radar.
Deion Burks, who transferred to OU from Purdue after three seasons with the Boilermakers, has found himself in trouble with the law ahead of his first term with the Sooners.
According to OU Insider’s Jesse Crittenden, who obtained an affidavit, the wide receiver was booked into a Cleveland County jail on June 1 after being arrested for speeding, driving under the influence, and transporting an open container of alcohol.
The police report notes that Burks was driving more than 25 mp/h over the speed limit before he was stopped. He is also accused of abruptly switching lanes without indication.
Officers observed that there was an empty tequila bottle in the player’s vehicle after pulling him over, with Burks admitting to having two shots of “hard liquor” before getting behind the wheel.
He also tested over the legal alcohol limit.

The Oklahoma Sooners confirmed having knowledge of the matter.
“We are aware of the matter and it is being addressed internally,” a spokesperson said.
Deion Burks Isn’t The Only Oklahoma Sooners player Who Was Arrested This Month
Burks transferred to Oklahoma in December following a season in which he recorded 47 receptions for 679 yards and seven touchdowns for Purdue.
He joined the Sooners as an important offseason arrival. Before moving to the SEC, the program’s offense averaged 324.8 passing yards and 41.7 points a game.
The team also has other legal worries, as defensive back Makari Vickers was arrested on the same day. However, there are no details regarding the arrest.
