It has been over a month since the Michigan Wolverines defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes 30-24 which put Michigan in the College Football Playoffs and the Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl.
However, at least one player is still complaining about the way that game ended up.
During a press conference ahead of the Buckeyes’ matchup against the No. 9 Missouri Tigers in the 2023 Goodyear Cotton Bowl, cornerback Denzel Burke recalled a crucial ruling from the refs that still has him heated.
Trailing 7-3 in the second quarter, Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy tossed a pass to receiver Roman Wilson. Burke and Wilson jumped into the air fighting for the ball, with the duo coming back down to the turf with an almost-even share.
Burke was sure the referees were going to rule in his favor and was beyond surprised when they did not.
“It was blatant,” Burke said, via Bucknuts. “He didn’t have control of the ball.”

“I’m thinking he’s going to give me the pick, like we got a pick in the red zone. It’s going to change the game,” Burke said. “And then I turn around, and I see his hands go up, and I’m like, wow.”
Burke is still thinking about it, and he thinks that some calls from the refs might have had an impact on the game.
“I don’t know what the refs saw, but a lot of the calls that game didn’t go our way,” Denzel Burke said.
Ohio State was only penalized once in the game for five yards while Michigan was penalized three times for 34 yards.
In the meantime, the No. 7 Ohio State Buckeyes and No. 9 Missouri Tigers will face off in the 2023 Goodyear Cotton Bowl from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
