Earlier this year, Notre Dame Fighting Irish sophomore cornerback Jaden Mickey registered his first career pick-6 with his mother, Nilka, fighting cancer at home.
Mickey said the first thing that entered his mind was his parents — Lamar and Nilka Mickey — watching back home in Eastvale, Calif.
That was one of the most memorable moments in his life that he will forever cherish.
On Friday, Mickey’s father announced that his mother, Nilka, passed away following a battle with colorectal cancer.
“Rest in Peace Mama Mickey!! I love you!! 25 years together!! What a great ride!! I love you!!” Lamar Mickey posted on X.
The South Bend Tribune reported that Nilka had been in hospice care since the fall and had been battling the cancer since 2020.

Nilka decided to take on no more chemotherapy after multiple treatments over the past few years. She was content with living the rest of her life surrounded by her loved ones.
In March, Jaden published a book, “The Win Isn’t Always On The Scoreboard,” where he vowed to donate the proceeds to his mother’s treatment.
That GoFundMe to help the Mickeys raised over $80,000.
For the season, Mickey registered 10 total tackles (7 solo) and one interception.
Oregon State and Notre Dame head to El Paso, Texas, for the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl.
