Pat Fitzgerald may have been filed by Northwestern, but the trouble has just begun for the football program and the university.
Northwestern is tasked with replacing Pat Fitzgerald after a bombshell hazing allegation scandal. That is the least of their troubles right now. The Northwestern football program has found itself in the middle of a major scandal involving hazing, sexual harassment, and potential oversight by not only the Northwestern coaching staff, but the entire athletic department for over three years.
According to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, a number of former Northwestern players have filed a lawsuit against the university.
“Eight former Northwestern players have retained noted civil rights attorney Ben Crump and Chicago law firm Levin & Perconti for a lawsuit against the university for “physical, sexual and emotional abuse” related to the hazing incidents that took place in the program,” Rittenberg tweeted.
According to the results of the investigation, there wasn’t sufficient evidence to say that the coaches were both aware and complicit in the hazing, but that there were “significant opportunities [for coaches] to discover and report the hazing conduct.”
In a story done by the Daily Northwestern, three players have come forward describing a “culture of enabling racism” among the Northwestern football program.

In the days since Northwestern fired football coach Pat Fitzgerald, four three-star recruits from the 14-member 2024 class have decommitted, and for good reason. The Northwestern football program might not be a threat anytime soon over this massive scandal.
