On Wednesday night, the sports world held its breath after Duke Blue Devils freshman Zion Williamson went down in the first minute of the game against the Tar Heels clutching his legs. It turns out he blew straight through his Nike shoe on his left foot.
This was a huge hit to Nike, so they had to scramble and release a statement on Wednesday night in the wake of Zion’s knee injury.
“We are obviously concerned and want to wish Zion a speedy recovery,” Nike said in a statement obtained by Sporting News’ Dan Bernstein. “The quality and performance of our products are of utmost importance. While this is an isolated occurrence, we are working to identify the issue.”
Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski said after the game that Zion suffered a mild knee sprain. There was no timetable given for his return.
