It’s very rare we get to see Nick Saban relaxed and calm and talking about something other than football.
At a recent speaking engagement, the Alabama Crimson Tide head coach told a story of how back in high school his wife Terry dated a man named Mickey Schafer before she started going out with him. Some years would pass and the two of them would meet Schafer at a homecoming party, where Nick Saban learned that he had now owned a car service station.
Saban thought he would show off by taking Terry to Schafer’s station. He told Terry that if she stayed with Schafer, she’d be married to a station owner.
Terry wasn’t having it.
“We drive by his service station and I said, ‘if you would’ve married him, that’s where you’d be now.’ She said, ‘bull****, if I would’ve married him, he’d be the head coach at Alabama now,’” Saban said.
