Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers surprised many last year when he returned for another year of college football instead of declaring for the NFL Draft. Apparently, lightning may strike twice on this front.
Quinn Ewers has had another productive season in Texas, completing 66.2 percent of pass attempts for 2,665 yards, 25 touchdowns, nine interceptions with one rushing score. The Longhorns qualified for the 12-team College Football Playoff and will meet No. 16-ranked Clemson in the first round on Dec. 21.
It was presumed all year long that Ewers would declare for the 2025 NFL Draft after the 2024 NCAA football season. But according to a stunning new report from the @NFLRookieWatxh X/Twitter account, Ewers is “debating” going back for another collegiate season.
Making matters complicated, according to the report, is that the Longhorns are ready to transition over to highly-touted QB2 Arch Manning for next year:
Quinn Ewers is reportedly “debating” on returning to college football and forgoing the NFL Draft yet again.

However, Texas is reportedly “ready” to move on to Arch Manning next season, which would prompt Ewers to enter the transfer portal.

The 2025 NFL Draft class is considered weak for quarterbacks, with Colorado Buffaloes star Shedeur Sanders standing out as the top prospect. Quinn Ewers, Georgia’s Carson Beck, Alabama’s Jalen Milroe and Miami’s Cam Ward headline the next tier of 2025 QB prospects, but they’re not considered “sure things” to succeed.

So one could easily argue that Ewers’ best bet is to play another year of college football and reset his draft stock for 2026. If he declares for 2025, though, there’s a good possibility that he’ll land in a not-so-favorable position where he’ll have to accept backup QB duties.
Quinn Ewers & Longhorns Have Other Business To Finish First
The 21-year-old Ewers still has another month to decide if he’ll declare for the 2025 NFL Draft or not. For now, the focus is on helping Texas advance to the quarter-finals in the College Football Playoff.
Texas qualified for the four-team postseason last year, dropping a heartbreaker to the Washington Huskies in the Sugar Bowl. We’ll see if they can redeem themselves after falling short a year ago.
