The New Mexico State-New Mexico men’s basketball game scheduled for Saturday has been canceled after a 19-year-old man was killed and a 21-year-old man was wounded in a shooting at the University of New Mexico campus in Albuquerque.
The shooting went down in the early morning hours. Albuquerque police called the shooting “a singular incident” and not a threat to other students on campus.
“This is not an active shooter,” the department said.
According to Geoff Grammer of the Albuquerque Journal, the 21-year-old man was a member of the New Mexico State basketball program.
The 19-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. The 21-year-old was taken to the hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown.
