By now, you’ve heard the viral news of associate head coach Chuck Love being suspended with pay Saturday night on the same day the team also removed starting guard Ashley Scoggin from the roster.
The head coach of the Nebraska women’s basketball team is now speaking out about the incident. However, Head coach Amy Williams will not confirm why or if those decisions are connected.
“It’s been a challenging few days but for our team to really come together and just stay together and compete and have a tough fought win today I couldn’t be more proud,” Williams said.
“We got two separate news releases yesterday, are those two things connected,” he asked.
“That’s something that I can’t answer at this time but certainly something that we are just going to focus on our current team,” Williams responded.
“Our team has just leaned on each other and I’m very proud of the way they’ve kind of leaned into each other and found a way to embrace, we say all the time we do hard things.”
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln would not comment on Love’s suspension, only saying it’s a personnel matter.
She would not say who decided to remove Scoggins.

“That’s a question I am not going to answer right now. That’s something that a lot of people have been involved in and I think we’ll leave it at that,” Williams said.
Junior Husker guard Sam Haiby said this of the situation:
“Coach always says her favorite song is can you stand the rain and this is definitely a storm for us and I think it’s really important for us to stay together. We’ve talked as a team and met with the players and stuff and it’s really important for us to come together,” Haiby said.
Williams said she doesn’t anticipate anyone else leaving the team. She said, “they’ll be able to move forward with the roster they have.”
Scoggin is a 23-year-old redshirt sophomore, who may or may not transfer to another school to continue her basketball career.
As for Love, the husband and father is suspended with pay. Right now, there is no word on whether he will return to the bench this season. He may have more pressing matters at home.
