Matt Rhule is being his first big move since being announced as head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Per ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, the Huskers coach announced that running back Anthony Grant has been suspended for the start of spring practice due to “off-field issues.”
Grant, a junior college transfer who began his college career at Florida State, led Nebraska in carries (218), rushing yards (915) and rushing touchdowns in 2022.
Rhule would later add that the suspension wasn’t for anything “bad” but simply a move to help the junior RB focus on his academics and the program’s standards.
The junior is expected to rejoin Nebraska at some point.
Rhule also announced three players are no longer with the program: cornerback Tyreke Johnson, and tight ends Chris Hickman and James Carnie.
