As the NCAA College Football season begins, NBC decided to debut a new score bug during the Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. Navy Midshipmen game.
The new lower third is a far cry from their old bug, where the teams and their scores were featured next to each other, the quarter, the clock, and the play clock next to each other, the play and yardage, and the NBC logo on the side. The new third is more efficient, with the team names and scores on opposite sides, with the scores towards the center, and the NBC logo centered, the time under, and the quarter and play clock under.
Fans on Twitter are raving about the new score bug, noting similarities between the NFL bug. The new, smaller graphic makes the action on the field easier to follow, as other networks have moved to bigger bugs that focus on scores and clocks as opposed to the on-field action.

The Notre Dame vs. Navy match is the first time NBC has used the new bug. The game, played in Dublin, Ireland, is a wise choice for the debut as Notre Dame is one of the most recognizable brands in college football.
With week 1 of the NCAA season underway, NBC has made a welcome change to their onscreen product. The new bug is welcomed by college football fans.
