The Navy football team is in shock and mourning after the heartbreaking news came down that senior offensive lineman David Forney passed away on Thursday night after being found unresponsive in his dorm room.
Ken Niumatalolo, the head coach of the Navy football program, released a statement on the loss of one his players.
“Words cannot express our pain and sorrow,” Niumatalolo said. “First and foremost, our deepest condolences to the Forney family. The Navy Football Brotherhood is not a team, we are a family. We are devastated to have lost one of our brothers. We all loved – and will always love – David. We pray for strength during this most difficult time.”
Forney started all 13 games at offensive guard and was a huge reason why the program led the country in rushing with 360.5 yards per game.
The 22-year-old graduated this May and was assigned to commission as a cryptologic warfare officer.
